ENDOMETRIAL CANCER - MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE

Early Diagnosis
Early diagnosis of cancer is fundamental to the chances of a successful course of treatment. Medical advances have ensured that most cancers can be treated if recognised early enough and treatment of endometrial cancer is now routine however the most important step in the entire process is early diagnosis. If a healthcare professional does not diagnose the presence of this condition or the diagnosis is later than it should be or if there is a misdiagnosis or a false positive and inadequate or more radical treatment is given than should otherwise have been necessary then there is the potential to make a claim for compensation for medical negligence.
Symptoms
Endometrial cancer occurs in the lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium. Typically this problem happens post-menopause and the first symptom will be vaginal bleeding. It is one of the most common cancers and over seventy thousand European women are diagnosed with it each year. There are successful screening campaigns in several European countries and this condition is now one of the least fatal of all cancers to affect women only.
Diagnostic Technique
The typical initial diagnostic technique is a pelvic examination, particularly if the cancer is suspected to be in the early stages of development. Your doctor should have given you a pelvic examination as a first step in diagnosis. The doctor would have been looking for changes to the structure and size of the uterus and the areas surrounding it. Failing to adequately examine a patient where it might have helped diagnose the problem sooner rather than later is an example of medical negligence.
Microscopic Examination
Diagnosis can be confirmed following microscopic examination of endometrial tissue obtained by dilatation and curettage of the uterus. A pap smear may also help highlight pre-cancerous changes at the cellular level to assist with very early diagnosis. Failure to properly examine samples or mis-interpreatation of results is medical negligence.
Specialist Solicitors
If you believe that you have suffered as a result of medical negligence by a doctor you may be entitle to make a claim for compensation. Our solicitors are all members of the Law Society panel of personal injury experts. Less than 1% of solicitors are members of this panel which gives them the right to act on behalf of applicants who receive public funding through the Legal Services Commission otherwise known as legal aid.
Free Legal Advice
Our experts offer free advice either personally or on the telephone for whatever length of time is necessary to establish whether you have a reasonable case. You will be given unequivocal advice on funding your claim including legal aid, no win no fee and insurance policy cover. If you would like to discuss your claim with a specialist just complete the contact form and a solicitor will phone you. If after discussing your matter you do not wish to proceed further then you are under no obligation to do so and you will not be charged for the initial advice.
